Big in Japan – Alphaville

At first glance, from the lyrics, you might think it’s a success story of a person who came to Japan with great ambitions. If you listen to the song, you may be surprised to learn that it is a melancholy song. The video shows a close-up of a western woman wearing a kimono at Japanese-hairstyle called Bunkin Takashimada, but her expression is somewhat blank and there is no smile. Although she aspired to succeed in Japan, her dream never came true. I wonder if that’s how she feels looking out at the Pacific Ocean.

Big in Japan, oo the Eastern sea’s so blue

At the end of the song, Dora sound is confused with China. (^!^;
